Welcome, my friend! Are you ready for a midlife health reinvention? Ready to kick some unhealthy habits to the curb, develop some healthy new habits, and reset your body (and your mindset)? Well, come on and join the party! We’ve been waiting for you!
But first, maybe you’d like to hear a little bit about my story, and why I started The New Moon Workshop.
As I approached 50, I could feel that things were changing for me. Not good, not bad, just… different. My youngest child graduated from college and as she hustled off to start her next chapter, I couldn’t help but think about my future, too. My friends shared stories about their struggles with midlife and empty nests and the scary realization that when one door closes, another door does not automatically open. You sometimes have to hunt around for the doorknob, banging around in the dark and feeling your way along the walls until you finally find it.
At the same time, admitting that I was “of a certain age” meant that I could no longer put off thinking about my health. You see, Alzheimer’s Disease runs rampant in my family. I’ve known this all my life, yet, I’ve managed to live in denial, thinking that “they” would find a cure before I got old, and even if they didn’t, I would just worry about it later. Bring on the cheeseburgers, margaritas, and cupcakes! Let’s party while we’re young and beautiful!
But as I hit this big round number, it finally occurred to me that there is still no cure for Alzheimer’s Disease (although, we are looking for one – click here to help). It was time for me to take control of my future. I knew that if I wanted to be around to see my grandchildren and be healthy enough to enjoy them, I needed to do better. I needed to focus on creating a new, healthy me.
I was ready with a plan: stop eating all of the things that were bad for me, only eat things that were good for me, exercise every single day, sleep eight blissful hours a night, and, oh yeah, save the world.
You can guess what happened. I had a really productive three days. Then I crashed into a box of sprinkle-covered donuts.
What I’ve learned the hard way is that it’s not easy to change decades of bad habits. You can’t do it overnight. It’s a long-term project. There will be a lot of two steps forward, one step back moments.
But it is possible.
That’s what The New Moon Workshop is all about. It’s a resource for women like us who are just hitting their stride and want a healthier body, mind, and soul. It’s for those who want to reawaken their senses and get excited about something new. I hope to bring you some tools and resources that will help guide you on your journey. At the very least, I want you to know you’re not alone. By sharing my own experiences (both the successes and the failures!), I hope to help others who are trying to shake things up and have a better future. And if we do this whole “midlife health reinvention” thing together, it will undoubtedly be more fun!
I’m not the same person that I was when I was younger. I value very different things today – relationships, health, nature, time, peace, balance. I hope I’m more compassionate and thoughtful. I’ve learned a few things about myself, and I’m able to say out loud what I want and what I don’t want.
I don’t want to spend my time or money on frivolous things. I do want deeper connections.
I don’t want drama. I do want adventure.
I don’t want to give you advice – because I suspect you’ve had enough of that. I do want to encourage you to follow your instincts, and jump into the things that interest you with passion and curiosity. Above all, I want to cheer you on. I want to see you nurture your body, mind, and spirit.
I’m so glad you are here, my friend. Cheers to you and the other women like us, who are ready to start something new. Together let’s bring more joy and light to each other, and to the world!
